Q1. What exactly is covered - how open is this unit?
This is a roof-only structure: the top is fully covered while all four sides stay completely open, so you drive in from either end or the side and never worry about door or mirror clearance. Nothing is boxed in, so air moves freely, moisture is never trapped and the space stays bright - the roof keeps sun, rain and hail off your vehicle, while wind-driven rain from the side can still reach the lower part of the car.
Q2.Will a 12 x 20 ft unit take two cars?
At 12 x 20 ft (3658 x 6096 mm) the unit is 3.66 m wide and 6.10 m deep, so it takes one car comfortably with both doors open and leaves over a metre at the rear for bikes, garden equipment or shelving. Two cars side by side need at least 4.5 m of clear width
Q3. Do I need planning permission?
In the UK, a structure like this is normally permitted development when it is single storey with eaves up to 2.5 m, an overall height up to 4 m with a dual-pitched roof (3 m for other profiles), and no more than 2.5 m where it stands within 2 m of a boundary. At 22.3 m² it must also cover no more than half the land around the original house, it will need permission in national parks, AONBs, the Broads and World Heritage Sites where units more than 20 m from the house are capped at 10 m², and outside the UK you should check local zoning, HOA or council rules before building a base.
Q4. How is a unit this large delivered, and can someone build it for me?
It ships flat-packed on pallets with the longest panels around [6] m, so check that your gate, access route and turning space can take a delivery vehicle and that the panels can be carried to the site.
